I just learned that there is an annual anime con here in the OKC area (Midwest City) called Izumicon. You can find info at izumicon dot com.

I am interested in attending, but unfortunately since I am rather shy I have no friends, let alone those that are interested in anime/Japanese culture and I'd feel a little awkward showing up by myself amongst 100s of Otaku. The convention takes place next week (Nov 13-15) so if you're interested in attending please send me an email and maybe we can discuss going together and possibly meet up a few days beforehand, etc.
