Gerald W Marshall
Gerald was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Victoria, to Montie and Lucille Marshall. One of five boys, he grew up working in the family cotton gin. He attended Texas A&M University where he earned a degree in animal husbandry, lettered as a member of the gymnastics team, and served as the executive officer of his squadron. Upon graduation in 1954, Gerald joined the Air Force as a pilot and soon found himself deployed to Germany as a member of the first operational squadron of supersonic fighters. After four years, he left the military to pursue a higher calling and received his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Sara Ann Marshall, founded the Desert Hills Baptist Church in Las Vegas in 1962. Gerald then rejoined the Air Force, this time as a chaplain, where he was loved by his congregations for his dynamic, innovative, and often theatrical sermons.
Colonel Marshall retired from the Air Force in 1980 after 20 years of service. In retirement, Gerald published a book, taught at Dallas Baptist University, spoke frequently at his church, and painted more than 20 original works of art, some of which are on permanent display in the Dr. Pepper Museum
