bike stores generally used 27" wheels, whereas the
USA made department store lower-end bikes used
26", like Murray, Huffy, Roadmaster, etc.
These 27" will usually have a five or six speed
cassette for the gear range and generally the seven
speed cassettes came out on 700C wheels in the mid 80's.
Usually the two sizes will interchange by adjusting your
brake pads where they're mounted in their slots.
Front steel wheels (chrome) are $10.
Front alloy wheels are $15.
Rear steel wheels (chrome) are $15.
Rear alloy wheels are $20.
( Add $5. per wheel if it has a quick release
lever instead of being bolted on by nuts )
