Cool, rare piece of mid-century industrial history from Remington-Rand. It's a rolling filing cabinet that drops in height as you open the lid. I think the idea was that an office worker could access files from the chair without getting up. It more than likely dates to the 50's. A rocking foot lever drops brakes to keep it from moving around.
It would make a one-of-a-kind beverage cooler & snack holder in a retro theater or game room.
This is a steal on one of these. I saw one of lesser quality on the major auction site for $495 + $135 shipping. On Chairish, a somewhat newer one than mine was listed for $900, and has apparently sold.
