We have six Kunekune pigs seeking new pastures. They’ve been raised with care and are well socialized. Here are some facts about the breed.
1. Naturally Gentle Temperament
Kunekunes are known for being extremely friendly, calm, and social. They enjoy human interaction, making them one of the easiest pig breeds to handle.
2. Small Size Compared to Other Pigs
While they’re still real pigs—not tiny minis—their compact, round build and shorter height make them easier to manage on a homestead.
3. Easy Keepers
Unlike most pig breeds, Kunekunes can thrive primarily on pasture. They’re natural grazers, which reduces feed costs and makes care more simple for beginners.
4. Minimal Rooting
Kunekunes root far less than other breeds, meaning they won’t destroy pastures or yards as quickly. Many owners keep them in rotational grazing systems with great success.
5. Great for Families
Their calm nature, slow movements, and love for attention make them great around kids and other animals when properly introduced.
6. Clean & Low Odor (for a pig!)
Because they graze and don’t rely heavily on grain, they tend to have a milder smell than more intensive pig breeds.
7. They Learn Quickly
Kunekunes respond well to training—many learn to come when called, follow routines, and behave politely with consistent handling.
8. Hardy & Low Maintenance
They tolerate a variety of weather conditions, have few health issues, and generally require minimal veterinary intervention.
